Designing My Tasks: Multiple product teams collaborating and utilizing new usability test initiative to rapidly design 8+ new features

Problem

My Tasks was a cross-product feature. Analytics showed My Tasks had low usage and user feedback highlighted the absence of key functionality.

Goal

Adding in new features and functionality on a strict deadline that would improve usage and usability across products.

Final screen for the ‘My Tasks Dashboard’ and ‘Creating a new Task’ that were handed-off to software engineers

KEY TAKEAWAYS

New Usability Testing Initiative

Relied heavily on RAPID prototyping to inform design designs, using newly created usability testing initiative

Multi-Team Project

Multiple product teams of different PMs, stakeholders, and software engineers needed to work on a new cross-platform project. A structured approach was needed to align collaboration and idea sharing while driving the project forward.

New Design System

Was first big project to fully utilize design system that I created

1

Key Stake-holder

Major stakeholder input was a high priority due to customer investment

8+

New Features

8+ individual features were concurrently designed with the the multiple product teams

Ideation stage, with an early version and screen flows

MAJOR OUTCOMES

Quick Iterations

Rapid prototyping allowed for quick iteration, allowing teams to collaborate efficiently when making changes

Ideation Sessions

New practices for cross-team projects were developed, including new ideation sessions

20+

Design System Components Used

Twenty new components were implemented, demonstrating the benefits of a design system with improved consistency and efficiency across design and engineering.

40+

Requirements met

Over forty stakeholder requirements met, while still being usable for ALL customers

On Time…

Despite a lot of moving parts between teams, because new collaboration efforts, new usability testing, and full use of the design system, project was pushed to production on time

…and Usage Up 300%!

After development, My Tasks had a 300% usage increase, and positive feedback was received by not only the major stakeholder, but other customers as well!

Lysnna was the usability testing software used for testing our prototypes with users.

This project was a huge undertaking with a lot of moving parts. The entire UX process was used to during this project, and ultimately led to other processes that were used for other projects.
